Observatory by Bruce Allen, commissioned for the Sculpture Trail in 1988, is a stair-like structure of blackened construction. It is set in a glade amidst fairly young beech trees and stands beside a remarkably still pool. Underneath the staircase there is a cave-like room which is designed to recall the mining heritage of the area.
