Someone who lives in these snowy areas - please try this. Pack a tight snow ball (from outside) and try to melt it with a long-handled lighter or put it in a saucepan on the stove. Then do the same thing with an ice cube or with a tightly packed "snow ball" scraped from inside a frosty freezer. Reply back after you observe the results.
