Magic Wand Shop in Northern Montana!
So it was a beautiful night in East Glacier Park, MT - a full moon and all - and we decided to go into town.
We saw a tiny store with a sign out front advertising the "World's Largest Wooden Spoon Shop"
Well, it looked like a pretty tiny store from the outside ...
You would've missed it if you hadn't noticed the sign.
Sure enough .... there we a lot of spoons ... but the store was narrow and long with multiple rooms ...
The place was packed with very intricate wooden spoons made from a variety of exotic woods. It was pretty impressive.
Way in the back were a case of handmade magic wands
And a whole box of "fairy wands"
Jo, the owner, guided our daughter through an intricate process of picking out a wand, and then wove an amazing tale!
The woman who owned the shop was an English teacher in Georgia who left teaching 15 years ago after learning how to make wooden spoons. She started making magic wands on the side and they were a huge hit. But what made them even more special was the long, winding, and totally captivating 20 minute story that she told each child about the wand's origin. She borrowed a lot from Harry Potter, but it was well worth the rapt attention she commanded from our 6-1/2 year old daughter. The ceremony was made complete by having her sign the numbered entry for her wand (she'd found homes for over a thousand).
And here's the end result - an absolutely enchanted little girl!
On our way out, we saw the Wand Makef sign that we had missed on the way in.
One happy little girl!
